A bamboo sushi rolling mat (called a makisu in Japanese) is a kitchen tool made from thin bamboo strips woven together with cotton string. It is used to help roll sushi (maki), rice balls, and other rolled foods tightly and evenly. The bamboo surface provides grip while still allowing food to release easily.
