A cotton swab (also known as a cotton bud) consists of a small wad of absorbent cotton wrapped around one or both ends of a short rod. These rods are typically made of rolled paper, plastic, or wood. While originally designed for infant ear care, they are now primarily used for cosmetics application, medical sampling (DNA or bacterial), cleaning delicate electronic parts, and various arts and crafts projects.
